Text description provided through the architects. Completed in '07, the bus shelter is a prototype design that have been initially constructed on the primary Campus of Wake Technological Community College. As the College’s enrollment grows as well as the subsequent demand for criminal court transportation increases, this prototype will be located on each of the current and future campuses. This bus shelter received a 2008 AIA National Little Project Structures Award.

The bus shelter is a simple yet refined architectural make up of two materially different elements: a heavy cast set up concrete wall that serves as structure in addition to a bench, and some sort of steel canopy frame, fabricated off-site, delivered by 18 wheeler, and set into spot. In elevation and sections, the wall interlocks considering the canopy forming a two times ‘L’ composition. The canopy panels skin, in this circumstance laminated polycarbonate, further expresses the lightness and translucency on the canopy.

The canopy composition and its associated dermis provide shade and refuge. Either translucent polycarbonate panels or patterned laminated a glass, are attached to the particular steel frame providing the weather tight cover. The choice of skin further enables light to filter through animating space with ever changing shadows and also patterns of light.
